The NHS has called for more people to have a flu vaccination to take the pressure off hospitals. The plea came as new figures showed more than 1,400 people had been in hospitals in the West Midlands with Covid in the last seven-day reporting period. There were 1,480 patients in the Midlands with Covid in hospitals, with 2,370 cases reported in the East Midlands and more than 2,700 cases reported in the West Midlands during the last week of reporting. Secondary school aged children are being vaccinated this month through schools and community clinics.
