Madonna has reflected on the reaction to her coffee table book Sex, which courted controversy at the time for its explicit content. Madonna wrote on her Instagram Stories yesterday (October 22): “30 years ago I published a book called S.E.X. In addition to photos of me naked there were photos of Men kissing Men, Woman kissing Woman and Me kissing everyone. Millie Bobby Brown leads another likeable crime caper that feels like a solid second chapter for the YA series – even if it is slightly muddied by boy problems. With the adventures of 2020’s origin story behind her, Enola (Bobby Brown) is now set up as a proper private detective in her own right. AdvertisementMost of the credit still belongs to Bobby Brown, always keeping the audience on her side through another loveable (if slightly cartoony) slice of book-smart heroism. Fizzing along nicely, even as it tips the two-hour mark, Enola Holmes 2 fits the mould it broke two years ago with a twisty murder mystery that’s well worth solving. Two films in, Enola is far more interesting than most on-screen Sherlocks have been in years.1 month ago NME
Viral rapper bbno$ (Baby No Money) has spoken to NME about his new album ‘Bag or Die’ – describing it as “me, saying absolutely nothing on all these songs”. Speaking to NME, Gumuchian explained that while the album doesn’t have a specific message, the lyrics are largely concerned with capitalism. “Typically, in a nice life, you play the game, you have money and you live life. I really need to go and get it checked out and get a massage but I just have no time. Instead, he said, “I want people to lose their minds.”He went on: “I’m really excited, because I love putting myself in weird situations, positions where I’m not necessarily uncomfortable, but I’m not comfortable.1 month ago NME
TJ Maxx and Foot Locker are the latest companies to cut ties with Kanye West, taking a stance against the rapper’s recent antisemitic and racist comments. In a statement shared with CNN, a representative for TJ Maxx said the retailer “do[es] not tolerate discrimination, harassment, or hate of any kind”. In the wake of his deal with Adidas being axed, West’s net worth reportedly plummeted from $2billion (£1.3billion) to $400million (£348million). It’s also noted that West was joined by at least one other person, and had “engaged in unauthorized filming”. In another TV interview, West said he didn’t believe in the term “antisemitism”.1 month ago NME
Asked if he felt that such executives had “stuck together when they heard” West’s comments, the rapper explained that he’d “had experiences where it felt like [he] was being teamed up on”. And I understand that when we got to say ‘Black Lives Matter’, that the idea of it made us feel good together as a people. In another TV interview, West said he didn’t believe in the term “antisemitism”. West’s comments have also led to real-world cases of abuse against Jewish communities. Earlier this month, for example, neo-Nazi groups in Los Angeles hung a banner reading “Kanye is right about the Jews” over a freeway.1 month ago NME
In the lead-up to Paramore’s second headline set at the inaugural When We Were Young festival, frontwoman Hayley Williams shared a heartfelt letter with her fans and supporters. Young girls, queer kids, and anybody of any color… We have shifted this scene together, messily, angrily, heartbroken, and determined.1 month ago NME
‘Midnights’ is, as Taylor Swift explained in a statement when her tenth studio album was revealed, “the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life”. A collection of songs “written in the middle of the night”, the announcement of this album came as something of a surprise. First emerging as a country crossover smash, the projects that have followed have been varied, Swift’s distinctive songwriting the one through-line. A moment of recognition, perhaps, to the place she now holds in musical history, but also a statement that could apply to ‘Midnights’. After a foray into a different sonic world, on Swift’s return to pure pop she still shimmers.1 month ago NME
