Ryan Murphy captivated the Golden Globe audience while accepting his tribute award when he chose to spend his time on the Hollywood stage speaking directly to LGBTQ youth watching at home. The TV mogul of American Horror Story, American Crime Story, Feud and Glee fame was honored with the Carol Burnett Award at the Jan. 10 ceremony. But for those kids watching tonight, I offer up MJ and Billy and Niecy and Matt and Jeremy as examples of possibility. Murphy, a five-time Globes nominee, has promoted equality in Hollywood with boundary-pushing and inclusive storylines. His FX drama Pose made history by featuring the largest transgender series regular cast and the largest LGBTQ cast for a scripted series.

The Hollywood Reporter‘s Women in Entertainment event, presented by Lifetime, returned to the Fairmont Century Plaza on Wednesday for the annual celebration of Hollywood’s leading ladies. This year, the star-studded event — which coincided with the publication of THR’s annual Women in Entertainment Power 100 — honored Charlize Theron with the Sherry Lansing Leadership Award, highlighting a woman who is a pioneer in her field. Issa Rae was also recognized with the Equity in Entertainment Award, given to an individual who amplifies the voices of underrepresented communities in the entertainment industry. Inside the breakfast, Chelsea Handler kicked off the morning, declaring, “There is nothing I take more pride in than supporting other women. The Women in Entertainment event was sponsored by Best Buy, Cadillac, Spotify, eOne, FIJI, Gersh, SAG-AFTRA, and in partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles, Chapman University, College Access Partnership, and Loyola Marymount University.

The country’s most daring and promising young fighter pilot takes part in a top-secret testing program for the military’s most advanced fighter jets. With hot young Chinese test pilots and heart-stopping aerial acrobatics, Born to Fly was supposed to be China’s answer to Top Gun: Maverick. The wildly anticipated action flick stars Wang Yibo, a pop star turned actor (think China’s Harry Styles), and was written and directed by Liu Xiaoshi, who cut his teeth making popular promotional videos for the Chinese military. Produced in full cooperation with the People’s Liberation Army Air Force — much as Maverick was with the U.S. Navy — the film showcases China’s most advanced stealth fighter jet, the J-20. There was a time when Maverick himself was actually expected to cruise into China’s airspace.

Hopefully next year it will be bigger and snowball and that creatives and people with power will come forward and support pediatric cancer.”
