Middle East posts jump in global feed production: Alltech

FEED production in the Middle East region increased by 6.3 million tonnes (Mt) in 2022 but dropped 12.9Mt in Europe, according to survey data released yesterday in the 2023 Alltech Agri-Food Outlook. Europe saw the largest decrease in feed production of 4.7pc in its feed production due to issues that include the invasion in Ukraine and the spread of animal diseases, such as African swine fever and avian influenza. Together, the top 10 countries produced 64pc of the world’s feed production, with half of the world’s feed consumption concentrated in four countries: China; US; Brazil, and India. Pig feed production was down globally in 2022 by almost 3pc, with ASF and high feed prices depressed pig production in many countries. Poultry, fish, pet sectors liftThe poultry sector experienced increases in both layer and broiler feed production.

AUSTRALIAN growers are likely to again face above-average fertiliser costs in 2023, according to a report released this week by Rabobank. the report says a recovery in global fertiliser consumption is possible in some regions in 2023, with prices lowering, and commodity prices at historically good levels. “Import factors…mean we expect local fertiliser pricing to remain less competitive into 2023, regardless of the underlying global market price movements,” Mr Pistoia said. The report said if history was to be believed, and trends following the 2008 Global Financial Crisis repeated, then global fertiliser prices should ease in coming months after the upset of the Russia-Ukraine war. “The index’s moving average is trending lower, as fertiliser prices are returning to pre-war levels,” Rabobank senior farm-inputs analyst and report lead author Bruno Fonseca said.

The vote itself is little more than a recommendation, but many states take the guidance as law set in stone and will follow whatever the CDC says to do. The result will be state requirements, that follow CDC guidance, which could now require a Covid-19 jab for children as young as 6 months old through their teen years. Part of the controversy lies in the question of the efficacy of the Covid-19 shot in children, especially those from ages 5 to 18.
