Consistency is key for Cardinals last month of regular season

CARRINGTON, N.D. — The Carrington High School volleyball team hasn't got any gimmes on the schedule this season. "My senior class and I started a JO volleyball team in third grade," Jarrett said. Trautman said that the key for the Cardinals at this point in the season is just to remain consistent. Trautman said the Cardinals also need to be aggressive on the attack while keeping the ball in bounds. "I tell the girls that volleyball is so unique in that someone scores on every single possession," Trautman said.

JAMESTOWN SCHOOL BOARD Regular Meeting Official Minutes School board members: Mrs. Larson, Mrs. Hanson, Mrs. Nelson, Robert Lech, Superintendent, Mr. Tweten, Mr. Roberts, Mr. Wegner, Mr. Stilwell did a facility tour of the Middle School. School board meeting on Monday, October 3, 2022 at 5:15 pm in the Thompson Community room in the Middle School. Mrs. Nelson moved, seconded by Mr. Rohr to approve the consent agenda which consisted of September 19, 2022 regular board meeting minutes, September 27, 2022 special board meeting minutes, payment of bills, and an open enrollment application for a Pre-K student to attend Medina Public School for the 2022-2023 school year. Mrs. Nelson moved, seconded by Mrs. Hanson to approve the second reading of ACBF – Medical Marijuana policy. Mr. Tweten moved, seconded by Mrs. Nelson to approve a tuition agreement for a Kindergartner to attend Kensal Public School for the 2022-2023 school year.

Becker has built Jimmies into perennial contenders

The Jimmies women's soccer team was not doing well on the field, having one winning season and five head coaches in the 16 years prior to his arrival. In his first season at the helm, Becker let the team to an 8-9-2 record as he worked to lay the groundwork for a successful program. That season, the Jimmies made it to the Association of Independent Institutions conference championship game, where they lost 2-0 to Ashford University. The Jimmies started the current season 1-4-1 before turning the season around, entering the game against Dakota Wesleyan on Wednesday, Oct. 26, with a 10-game winning streak. Becker credits his team’s turnaround to the schedule becoming less mentally and physically taxing as the Jimmies started the season with trips to St. Louis, Missouri, and Oregon.

Schumacher brothers leading Mustangs into the second round

WISHEK, N.D. — For the first time since 2013, the South Border Mustangs have made it to the second round of the state playoffs. The Mustangs are one of 16 teams left in the 2022 NDHSAA 9B Playoffs and two big reasons why are their brother duo of James and Daniel Schumacher. The Mustangs go on the road for the second round at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, when they face Grant County/Flasher. In order for the brothers to help the team get past the Storm, Mustangs head coach Evan Mellmer said the duo cannot try to do too much. “Almost our entire team can agree, yes school is very important too, but that’s all we can think about is football,” James said.

JAMESTOWN — Changes on recommendations for how often women should get cervical cancer screenings can be confusing, according to Dr. Gregg McAdoo, an obstetrician-gynecologist at Jamestown Regional Medical Center. Instead of every year, it became individualized.”When cancer starts in the cervix, it is called cervical cancer, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. He said cervical cancer can take away a woman’s ability to have children and take away a life. “That can protect against cervical cancer and save a lot of uncomfortable exams for a woman in the future,” he said. Jamestown Regional Medical Center has programs that help reduce the costs of getting cervical cancer screenings.
