Inquiry into M9 crash deaths delayed to September

The inquiry into the deaths of a couple who were left undiscovered for days after crashing off the M9 motorway in Scotland has been postponed until September. The second preliminary diet for the fatal accident inquiry (FAI) into the case took place at Falkirk Sheriff Court on Friday. Sheriff James Williamson, confirming the postponement, said he was “grateful to the relatives of Mr Yuill and Ms Bell for their understanding”. The court heard Ms Bell pleaded for help after being found and would probably have survived had she been rescued sooner. Sir Iain apologised to the families of Mr Yuill and Ms Bell following the court case.

Last week, the United States announced that Venezuelans arriving by land without travel documents will be returned to Mexico. Arias arrived at Canaan Membrillo in a T-shirt and shorts, carried by other men in the group after injuring his knee. The number of Venezuelans making the Darien crossing reached a record high in 2022 -- some 133,000 between January and mid-October, according to authorities in Panama. The authorities in Panama say at least 100 people have died crossing the Darien since 2018, about half of them in 2021 -- the deadliest year so far.
