AFPDisgraced former socialite Ghislaine Maxwell has claimed in a jailhouse interview with a UK broadcaster that a decades-old photograph of Prince Andrew with his sexual abuse accuser Virginia Giuffre is “fake”. Maxwell, a friend to British royalty, is imprisoned in a Florida penitentiary after her conviction and 20-year sentence for helping late financier Jeffrey Epstein sexually abuse girls. It follows her dropping a separate abuse claim against celebrity lawyer Alan Dershowitz. “I can tell you with confidence that the Prince Andrew team is now considering legal options”, a “well-placed source” told the tabloid.

Britain's Sunak to face opposition in parliament for first time as PM

Rishi Sunak will on Wednesday face off against opposition lawmakers for the first time as British prime minister, in a likely raucous parliamentary session following weeks of political turmoil. Addressing the nation outside Number 10 shortly after his appointment by King Charles III, Sunak conceded the country faced "profound economic crisis". In his first call with a foreign leader, Sunak told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky Britain would continue its "steadfast support" following Russia's invasion. He also spoke to US President Joe Biden, who had earlier hailed the appointment of the first British-Indian prime minister as "groundbreaking". "President Biden said that the UK remains America's closest ally, and the Prime Minister agreed on the huge strength of the relationship," Sunak's office said of their discussions.

Wearing a blue suit and tie, the charismatic but controversial Lula was then driven from Congress to the Planalto presidential palace, escorted by dozens of bodyguards. An emotional Lula broke down in tears, thanking the Brazilian people for their faith in him and vowing to fight for a more just country. Bolsonaro, who has not explicitly acknowledged his loss or congratulated Lula, left Brazil for the US state of Florida on Friday. French President Emmanuel Macron, who did not attend, posted on Twitter a photo of himself with Lula, saying “Order and Progress” -- the words which adorn the Brazilian flag.
