Gedolei Torah Make Exceptional Request:Maximize votes of those traveling abroad

By Hamodia StaffYERUSHALAYIM — Due to the difficult situation in Eretz Yisrael for the Torah communities, Gedolei Yisrael have issued an unusual call: to maximize the votes among those who travel abroad to strengthen the United Torah Judaism list. In light of this call, an office has been opened to coordinate between Agudath Israel activists and travelers with Israeli citizenship who are currently abroad or planning to travel abroad, in order to guarantee their votes on Election Day. As noted, the Gedolei Yisrael have called for those traveling abroad to return before Election Day, or to wait to travel until after Election Day. “Anyone who cannot do this should still work to persuade his family and friends in Eretz Yisrael to go out to vote. Perhaps it is also in place to launch a fund that will help people who wish to come take loans for this purpose.

Peru Congress to Reconsider Early Election, Unrest Continues

Castillo’s attempts to break a stalemate with hostile lawmakers by closing Congress only deepened those tensions. Should lawmakers decide to push up elections, they would in essence be throwing themselves out of work. Under Peru’s constitution, the 130 members of Congress are entitled to serve only a single term.

Court in Myanmar Again Finds Suu Kyi Guilty of Corruption

Suu Kyi was the de facto head of government, holding the title of state counsellor. The official also said both Suu Kyi and Win Myint appeared to be in good health. Cases against Suu Kyi were manufactured and court verdicts predetermined by the military, Phil Robertson, deputy Asia director of Human Rights Watch, said in an emailed statement. The end of the court cases against Suu Kyi, at least for now, raises the possibility that she would be allowed outside visitors, which she has been denied since she was detained. Suu Kyi, the daughter of Myanmar’s martyred independence hero Gen. Aung San, spent almost 15 years as a political prisoner under house arrest between 1989 and 2010.

U.N. Chief: Exhibit of Nazi Victims Is Call to Fight Cruelty

It is also a call to the world to “stem the tide of human cruelty and fight anti-Semitism and all forms of racism wherever and whenever it manifests itself,” Guterres said. The big installation — “The Book of Names of Holocaust Victims” — was brought to U.N. headquarters in New York by Yad Vashem. It stands 6.56 feet (2 meters) high, 3.3 feet (one meter) wide, and is 26.45 feet (8 meters) long, with the names of 4.8 million victims so far identified by Yad Vashem arranged alphabetically on pages. There are blank pages at the end symbolizing the more than 1 million murdered Jews who are still unidentified.

Last Migrants Encamped Outside Watson Hotel Leave, Most to City Housing

Since Sunday, single male migrants from Latin America who were made to leave the Watson hotel in Manhattan have been living on the street with their belongings outside the hotel. The city opened up makeshift housing for them in the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal, complete with amenities and free meals, in order to free up space for families with children to stay in the hotel. But dozens of migrants refused, saying that they would not have their needs met there. The Mayor explained that the door of the cruise terminal is still open for those who initially refused to get on the buses. One migrant who currently lives at the cruise terminal, Alejandro Landaeta, says that the conditions are good, and had strong words for those refusing to cooperate.

NASA’s Mightiest Rocket Lifts Off 50 Years After Apollo

The moonshot follows nearly three months of vexing fuel leaks that kept the rocket bouncing between its hangar and the pad. “For the Artemis generation, this is for you,” launch director Charlie Blackwell-Thompson called out, referring to all those born after Apollo. The Orion capsule will take astronauts only to lunar orbit, not the surface. After a nearly yearlong space station mission and all-female spacewalk, Koch, 43, is on NASA’s short list for a lunar flight. So is astronaut Kayla Barron, 35, who finally got to witness her first rocket launch, not counting her own a year ago.

Could New York Elect a Republican Governor?

For most of the campaign, polls that put Mrs. Hochul ahead by double digits back up what looked like a yet another non-election for a New York Democratic governor. A Siena College poll showed Mrs. Hochul with an 11-point lead, down from 17, last month. Quinnipiac University’s poll had Mr. Zeldin in striking distance, only four points behind, SurveyUSA has him behind by 6 points. One poll by the less recognized independent co/efficient survey showed a neck and neck race with Mr. Zeldin .3 ahead.
