Australians paused at 11am to mark Remembrance Day and commemorate the 103,000 Australians who lost their lives in wars and peacekeeping operations. Previously known as Armistice Day to commemorate the signing of the peace agreement that ended World War I, Remembrance Day honours all Australians who lost their lives in conflicts. "Immersed in the spirit of those who have given their all, their lives, for us in war, in peacekeeping and in humanitarian assistance." Victorian Governor Linda Dessau noted it was the first Remembrance Day since the death of Queen Elizabeth II. "I think of her in 1940, as a 14-year-old girl, delivering her first public address on radio, to the young people affected by World War II," the governor said.

Honor Flights aim to take as many veterans as possible to Washington D.C. to see the memorials for the wars in which they were engaged. Misty Weber, the Warren County School District’s Virtual Academy principal, said this weekend’s flight is part of a now five-year partnership between the school district and the honor flight organization. “We are bestowing that honor on you tomorrow,” Tom Petrie, president of the Buffalo Niagara Honor Flight group, told them Friday morning. Career Center students made cookies and helped handle traffic for Friday’s reception while cards for the veterans came in from multiple schools. The Youngsville High School sophomore class presented a plaque to each of the veterans and Warren Area High School Students spoke, sang and performed during Friday’s reception.

I have had a Lifetime Isa (Lisa) for the last 5 years, in which I am saving for a deposit on a home. However, I am hugely disappointed that, as well as taking away the bonus, my Lisa provider is also taking more than £750 of my own money as a penalty. A 25 per cent penalty on £15,000 equates to £3,750, which means they lose £750 more than the £3,000 added by the 25 per cent Government top up. Once people turn 50, they will not be able to pay into it or earn the 25 per cent bonus.
