Los Angeles Angels owner Arte Moreno has decided not to sell the team. Moreno took his franchise off the market Monday after announcing his plan to explore a sale of the team last August. “Despite strong buyer interest in the Angels, Arte Moreno’s love of the game is most important to him," Manfred said. Moreno is an outdoor advertising mogul from Arizona who originally bought the Angels from the Walt Disney Company in 2003, shortly after the franchise won its only championship. Moreno said he met “with a number of highly qualified individuals and groups who expressed strong interest in the club” while exploring a sale.

Cost of 2022 Extreme Weather Disasters in the US Totaled $165 Billion, NOAA Says

Costly weather disasters kept raining down on America last year, pounding the nation with 18 climate extremes that caused at least $1 billion in damage each, totaling more than $165 billion, federal climate scientists calculated Tuesday. The amount, cost and death toll of billion-dollar weather disasters make up a key measurement, adjusted for inflation, that NOAA uses to see how bad human-caused climate change is getting. In the past seven years, 121 different billion-dollar weather disasters have caused more than $1 trillion in damage and killed more than 5,000 people. That prevented freeze was one of two “silver linings” in 2022 extremes, Smith said. As we get closer to the November elections, climate change is becoming a leading issue on the ballot.

Regulators Seek $155 Million PG&E Fine Over Zogg Fire

State regulators are seeking a $155 million fine against PG&E for its alleged failure to cut down a tree that had been flagged for removal well before the deadly Zogg Fire back in 2020. The company -- currently charged with 31 criminal counts by Shasta county prosecutors – has denied any wrongdoing connected to the start of the fire. PG&E says although two trees were flagged for removal two years before the fire that left four dead, it can’t say either of those trees was to blame for the fire. One key factor, regulators said, was that its review of aerial photos showed no other grey pines in the area than the two that had been flagged for removal.
