United States Capitol Police arrested two armed serial carjackers following a chase through the District Tuesday, according to a USCP spokesperson. The two suspects, Capitol Police said, were found trying to hide behind a Pennsylvania Avenue restaurant’s rear outdoor freezer. Samuel Watters’ SUV was within inches of being struck by the suspect’s vehicle. USCP officers are allowed to chase in the District. Prince George’s County Police investigated how the suspects, arrested in D.C., may be connected to their jurisdiction.

Locke was arrested at Metro Center Station Tuesday by Metro Transit Police. PREVIOUS COVERAGE: Accused armed rapist arrested by Metro Transit PoliceJust hours before his arrest, Locke was stopped about three miles away. Tahron Sheffield was working security at the Safeway on Georgia Avenue when he and shoppers spotted a man who appeared to be Locke. When D.C. police arrived they weren't able to arrest Locke because there was no warrant out for his arrest in their system. Metro Transit Police found Locke and placed him under arrest within a short time of our detectives obtaining the warrants.

Metropolitan Police Department Officer Michael Fanone was on the front lines of the battle for control of the tunnel entrance when Head grabbed him. as he wrapped his arms around Fanone’s neck and dragged him into the crowd outside the tunnel, prosecutors said. He was your trophy," Jackson told Head, 43. Head restrained Fanone while other rioters beat and shocked the officer with a stun gun at the base of his skull. Head told FBI agents that he drove to Washington to attend the "Stop the Steal" rally, where then-President Donald Trump addressed a crowd of supporters.

Biden to speak on economy after key report shows U.S. inflation easing

President Joe Biden will speak about the economy and inflation Thursday following the release of a closely watched report that’s viewed as a good indicator of whether Wall Street’s recent optimism is warranted or overdone. "All eyes are on the arrival of U.S. inflation data this week," Clifford Bennett, chief economist at ACY Securities, said in a report. Still, the Fed doesn’t expect inflation to slow enough to get close to its 2% target until well into 2024. At the same time, average hourly pay growth slowed, which should lessen pressure on companies to raise prices to cover their higher labor costs. Trump's chief of staff trying to avoid testifying in Fulton County election probe

articleMark Meadows, former White House chief of staff, is trying to avoid having to testify before a Georgia special grand jury that’s investigating whether then-President Donald Trump and his allies illegally tried to influence the state’s 2020 election. Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis opened the investigation early last year, and the special grand jury was seated in May to review evidence and hear from witnesses. Because Meadows lives outside of Georgia, Willis can’t simply issue a subpoena for his testimony. The next day, Willis wrote, Meadows made a "surprise visit" to Cobb County, just outside Atlanta, where an audit of signatures on absentee ballot envelopes was being conducted. Meadows also sent emails to Justice Department officials alleging voter fraud in Georgia and elsewhere and requesting investigations, Willis wrote.
